The Middle East is a crucial area for Europe and the world, especially from a geo-political point of view. During the last century this region has been at the centre of important economic, political and social dynamics.
Today, especially after the 11 of September 2001, Middle Eastern politics has become crucial for foreign relations and critical to for the understanding of regional changes and dynamics.
Consequently, in order to better understand and analyse the Middle East region, the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Turin is organising a number of “Middle Eastern Days” during Spring 2010. The great demand of information about an area where misunderstandings and exploitations are a core part of its political process and economic development, push the faculty to organise three study events around several key issues. The objectives are multiple: from one side the scope is bridging and creating contacts between middle eastern scholars and their universities and Universities in Europe in order to define agreements and to further cooperation. From the other side to evaluate the extent of interest within the faculty in Turin around this topic in order to organize for the 2010/2011 term a proper and fully fledged “To-MiddleEast” Summer school.
The “Middle Eastern days” will include both lectures as well as public speeches. Lectures will be held as part of the university-run course of ‘History of Middle East’ (Mondays, Thursdays, Wednesdays 10,00-12,00 Room 7 “Palazzina Einaudi Lungo Dora Siena 68/A” ). Public speeches will be held in “Sala Lauree” Palazzo Venturi, Teacher Room, Via Verdi, 25 and Via Plana 10 Aula F.
