TheChinaCompanion

TheChinaCompanion is one of the most innovative China-related projects I have come across in years. It’s a veritable cornucopia of riches.

prof. Robert Ash, SOAS

TOChina is close a partner of TheChinaCompanion, a web aggregator designed at the T.wai, the Torino World Affairs Institute for the benefit of students, scholars and professionals.

The aim of TCC is to realize a comprehensive, multi-layered web aggregator for relevant information on contemporary China’s politics, international relations and political economy.

This is achieved through the 3 main sections of its integrated and fully-searchable database:

NEWS: automatically updated every hour, 24/7, this section provides China-related news from some 40 of the world’s most authoritative newspapers, radio stations, TV channels and institutional bulletins.

THINK-TANKS: TCC staff manually searches for relevant papers and reports dispersed in tens of think-tank/university department  websites, gathering and tagging them all into a single database, 1999-today.

JOURNALS: TCC staff manually vets over 200 English and German language scientific journals and inputs data for each and every relevant essay 1999-today. Each article carries its abstract and is tagged; book reviews are included. In the coming months essays in French, Spanish and Italian will be included. Over 7,000 entries available as of January ’10.

A number of additional services are also offered on TheChinaCompanion, among which a forum and, more importantly, an event-locator, allowing users to publicize their events and see what’s going on in the discipline around the world.

TCC editors embrace the philosophy whereby as an empowering agent, knowledge should as far as possible be openly accessible. All TCC services are free of charge.
